Our first birth was at a birthing center with a midwife. For our second child, after being through labor once, I felt comfortable with having a home birth. Our midwife had to move out of state when I was about 6 months pregnant (talk about stress!). After interviewing other midwives, we chose Karen to continue down our path with us.
And I believe EVERYTHING happened for a reason! Karen jumped right in and seamlessly took over our care. Being a certified nurse midwife brought us a ton of comfort as we knew she had an extensive medical background and could offer more medical expertise should me or the baby have needed it. From the first appointment with her, well actually the first phone interview we did, her calming presence was contagious. She made us feel calm and in control because SHE was calm and in control. And that went all the way through to our birth.
I had prodromal labor for maybe a week before my baby came. Karen was extremely available to discuss options and give advice on what to do or what not to do (sweep membranes, etc). I appreciated having open conversations about options and that ultimately, she let us decide how to proceed.
When labor was underway in the middle of the night (1:30am), Karen responded to my husband’s text within a minute and was at our house within 20 minutes. Our son was born an hour later. But even though we had a fast and furious labor, I remember Karen saying some key things to me that really helped my intense labor. She remained calm the entire time which helped bring my adrenal down as well. I could go on and on, but ultimately, we highly recommend Karen!
Thank you for being a part of one of the most important and amazing days of our lives that we will never forget!
